About MeI have specialized knowledge in adoption, infertility, attachment, parenting children with special needs, caregiving aging parents, ADHD, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, stress and anger management, complex trauma, and relationships. I honour each client’s unique individuality and aspirations. I want you to find your authentic self. |
I consider myself to be a humanistic therapist in that I believe that people have both the desire and the ability to reach their full potential. This can happen when people feel heard and validated, and have the chance to process their thoughts, experiences, and emotions. I take a process-based, experiential approach to counselling, where you will have the space to talk freely and work through your concerns, and then try new ways of being and doing. I believe this leads to an increased feeling of self-worth. This emotion-focused therapy approach is scientifically supported, and essentially uses emotion to change emotion. Attachment theory is the science behind this approach. Attachment theorists believe that relationships with significant others impact how we feel about ourselves and how we interact in the world. A supportive, well-attuned counselling relationship mimics a secure attachment relationship and can help you resolve conflicts and improve your life. Although this approach is well-suited to most people and problems, there are times when I integrate thought-based strategies and techniques. These include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, which include very practical activities and support.
